Photography of patients seeking cosmetic, or functional, improvement of their nose by otolaryngologists or plastic surgeons is a well-established procedure in most departments of clinical photography. However, the differences between the personal preferences of the specialist surgeons and the ‘set’ views offered by photographic departments unfortunately make any accurate audit of post-operative results difficult. The situation is also hindered by the numerous reproduction ratios used, including 'best fit' or just fill the frame photographs.
Hence, these Guidelines are intended to help achieve standardisation of photography for rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty records. When local requirements vary from the standard views shown in these Guidelines, departments should consider incorporating all views into their template in order to provide clinicians with the additional information.
