Selected by a panel of expert judges, the images have been created using techniques ranging from light and electron microscopy to illustration and photography. This year, Leicester Royal Infirmary have taken home an award for their entry of a premature baby in an incubator. Originally photographed for an information leaflet intended for patients, the Wellcome Judging Panel felt that this image was powerful enough to take home an award for excellence.
