Healthcare Science has many strengths, but our ability to share achievements with others outside of our services is not always one of them. That is why it is so gratifying to see the hard work being done by teams up and down the country recognised in a series of awards, honours and evidence-based case studies at medical conferences. Winning the Guardian Healthcare Innovation Award with Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC) was a real accolade. The judges recognised both the impact of the Healthcare Science profession on the NHS and the inclusive approach, involving people from across the service, education and patient groups in the development of MSC.

A three month consultation on proposed standards for a Register of Healthcare Science Practitioners has been launched today (2 Dec 2013). One of the key tasks of the Academy for Healthcare Science is to uphold professional standards across Healthcare Science.

Simon Stevens has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of NHS England, Chairman Professor Sir Malcolm Grant announced. Simon, who has 26 years’ experience in healthcare management at front line and national level both in England and internationally, will take over from Sir David Nicholson on 1 April 2014.
