There are two vacancies for election to IMI’s Council (2017-2020) and you can now vote on-line from the IMI website. The deadline for doing this is Friday September 22nd 2017. You will see photographs and biographies of all of the candidates. You can vote for a maximum of two people. The results of this election will be announced at IMI’s AGM on October 6th October 2017.

The following procedure has been approved by Council for the award of Honorary Fellowships. The Honorary Fellowship is quite distinct from the ordinary Fellowship and is awarded in recognition of outstanding service to the Institute or to the profession as a whole. It is envisaged that this high distinction will be sparingly awarded and is vested solely in the Council of the Institute. A maximum of two Honorary Fellowships will be awarded in any calendar year and there shall be no compulsion to make any such awards in a given year.

If you take a career break (including maternity leave) of 12 months or more then you can retain your IMI membership at a reduced rate of £63 per year however you must notify the IMI Membership Secretary of this in advance of your leave. It cannot be claimed retrospectively.You are strongly advised to retain your registration with the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS) if taking a career break.

Medical picture libraries are used extensively by educators, researchers, publishers and others who want to obtain high quality medical imagery for use in a variety of ways including publication in books, journals and the web, and for educational use such as lectures and teaching packages.

The Science Photo Library was created in 1981. The founder, Michael Marten, had just finished publishing a popular book on the world seen through modern scientific imaging techniques. Other publishers started to ask if they could use these images for other books. Michael saw the business potential of this and the company was born.

Previously the Institute has made available a model policy for members to download and use in their own departments and organisations. Experience has taught us that there are often legal differences between the four home countries and that specialist hospitals can often require a specialised policy. To resolve these issues we have made available several existing policies that are in use currently throughout the United Kingdom.
