Bereavement

IMI is sorry to pass on the news of the death of Alastair Irwin who was a prominent member of the Institute in Scotland for many years.

Alastair worked at Canniesburn Hospital, near Glasgow from 1969 before leaving to commission a new department at Monklands District General Hospital in Airdrie in 1978. In 1985 he left Lanarkshire to become the Head of Service at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow where he remained until he retired. Alastair was married to Rosina who is the sister of Loudon Brown so our condolences are extended to them both as well as Alastair’s two sons.

The funeral service will take place at Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium KA24 5LE on Tuesday 24^th March 2026 at 1600 for committal. Please let Alastair’s son know if you wish to attend in person (calumirwin@gmail.com). The service will also be available as a webcast here:
